Improvements continue this week at historic Marsh Field with the construction of a new grass infield.

Jim Grevel, of the Lakeshore Baseball Club, said the old infield turf will be ripped out Tuesday and new sod will be installed Wednesday or Thursday.

The infield has been lasered and will be completely level for play for next spring.

The work is being done by Landscape Design Services of Holland.

“This infield has been bumpy with ruts,” Grevel said. “It will be completely level now with no lips. This infield will make a huge difference.”

In addition, a new flag pole has been erected in right-center field near the scoreboard.

Pete Gawkowski, Len Piasecki and Grevel – partners in the non-profit LBC – have spearheaded the many improvements to Marsh,

which is located at the corner of Peck and Laketon. They include a new scoreboard, chair-back seating, new sound system and renovated dugouts.

Marsh has become a baseball hotbed from April to October with high school games, middle school games, summer tournaments, fall leagues and City League play.
